Position Summary

The Political Director (PD) will guide Apollo’s political strategy at the national, state and local levels. The PD will:

Strategic planning and policy development
identify and assess opportunities for Apollo to influence the energy debate in Congress and in the states;

design and oversee the implementation of new policy and organizing initiatives in Congress and in the states;

make policy recommendations to the CEO and, through her, to the Apollo Board;

Building our alliances with national, state and local Apollo partners
engage Apollo’s national, state and local partners in developing and advancing the organization’s political priorities;

provide strategic and policy advice to Apollo’s national, state and local partners;

work with Apollo’s state and local partners to share strategies across regions and states, and ensure consistency of message and policy;

Staff supervision
supervise Apollo’s Western Regional Director and other national field staff, as hired;
help guide the work of Apollo’s Washington Director.

The Political Director (PD) will report to, and work very closely with, Apollo CEO Lucy Blake. This is the ideal position for an experienced political organizer and strategist with a strong working knowledge of our domestic energy challenges. The Apollo Alliance is at the epicenter of the national movement for a clean energy economy that creates important new economic opportunities for people across America. Qualifications:

A proven ability to plan, coordinate and implement national and/or state campaigns to influence policy change, including lobbying legislators, developing policy proposals, writing persuasive educational materials, mobilizing voters and key constituents, and working with the media;

Significant experience in the field of national and state energy policy;

Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communications skills;

A track record of success as a manager of talented staff and volunteers;

At least 10 years of policy and organizing experience, as described above;

A willingness and ability to live in the San Francisco Bay Area (preferred) and travel extensively within the United States;

A deep commitment to Apollo’s mission.

Compensation

Salary and benefits are competitive, and commensurate with experience.
